Downstairs WC Mood Board {Chartreuse & grey with cut glass and brass accents}

So the downstairs loo is finally getting a refresh! Since moving in two and a half years ago, it’s been painted a chalky purple {Sweet Dreams by Crown} I chose this colour based around a canvas brought with us from the apartment which had some gorgeous pink, purple and red tones running through it. Not an awful lot of thought went into this choice and I grew tired of the colour quite quickly. Being a small room with not a lot of natural light (the window is tiny) I felt it needed a more zesty colour paired with an off-white to reflect more light around the space. There are already elements in the room which I love; the window style mirror above the basin gives the room much needed depth and the ceiling fitting in brass and cut glass works really well. I wanted to introduce some more brass and glass elements so I picked up a marble and brass toilet brush from Sainsbury’s and I’ll put some cut glass candles in there too.

On to the paint, neutrals are quite tricky to get right. I knew I wanted an off white with a hint of grey to tie in with the grey in the swallow print wallpaper and also the grey splashback tiles but didn’t want to faff around with tester upon tester. I originally wanted to go for Farrow and Ball’s Cornforth White as I was so pleased with the depth and finish of their Stone Blue paint used in our living room as well as the Stiffkey Blue used in the second spare bedroom. I swear the price has rocketed since we painted two years ago because a 2.5l tin is an eye-watering £43.49 that’s £17.40 per litre when compared with Crown’s Sail White at £14 for a 2.5l tin working out at a very reasonable £5.60 per litre. Quite a difference, no?

I figured since I’ve splashed out on Sanderson wallpaper and that really is the showstopper in the room, the paint doesn’t really need attention drawn to it, it just needs to create a lovely chalky grey hue and set off the wallpaper nicely. I remember reading a super informative blog post ‘Choosing The Perfect Pale Grey Paint’ over on Rock My Style a year ago which covers the subtle differences in grey paints, well worth a read if you’re in a similar dilemma with neutrals! On the blog post there is a picture of the author, Lauren’s living room painted in Sail White and it just looks gorgeous, a perfect powdery white with just a subtle whisper of grey, I think I’ve made the right choice!
