Hot chocolate, blankets and the gentle flicker of candle light; I love this time of year! There’s so much to appreciate with the spectacular colours of nature and so much anticipation for the festive season ahead. As the last firework goes off tonight, all attention will eagerly turn to ….Christmas! As the nights get darker and colder (and the hot chocolate, blankets and candles make a daily appearance) I’ve been especially admiring the wallpaper in our living room.
It’s been up for nearly two years now yet my love affair with it is still going strong! I saw it used on The Great Interior Design Challenge, fell in love and bought it straight away (i.e as the credits rolled!) It was such an impulse buy but I’m a firm believer in just going with what you love. It really was star of the show, forming the basis of the living room’s scheme and everything else just sort of fit into place!
It looks especially good at this time of year as the whimsical pattern of hares, pheasants and sheaves of corn come to life. The design called ‘Harvest Hare’ is made from an original linocut ( a print-making technique) by talented artist-Mark Hearld. The subtle texture of the hand printed elements make it a very high-quality piece of artwork which I’m sure will be up for many years to come, although, I have been temped by the many other beautiful designs out there which I thought I’d share with you!
- First up (you’ve guessed it) has got to be Harvest Hare. The design is available in different colourways as wallpaper and as fabric. Just look at this beautiful armchair and ottoman, stunning!
I just love, love, love how Harvest Hare has been used in the living room above. Combined with the stag artwork which gives a masculine feel and the herringbone brick work on the fireplace, the overall effect is simply stunning!
Even little touches of the design used on scatter cushions will add a modern country, very British feel to your interiors. 45 cm cushion covers £38 each available from St Judes.
2. Next up is this lovely ‘Game birds’ print by Voyage as part of their ‘Country’ collection. The hand-painted birds are then digitally printed onto heavy weight paper. The detail and colours are beautiful!
And just look at this beautiful chair. Can you imagine relaxing with a good book and a hot chocolate on a dark winter’s evening? I know I can!
The ‘Cornelius’ Game Birds fabric arm-chair is available from Simple Homeware complete with cushion priced at £784
3. Last up is the iconic ‘Woods’ design by Cole & Son which can look particularly effective at this time of year. What a homely little snug this is with that comforting rug underfoot and firewood aplenty! The roaring wood burner is really brought to life by the use of Cole & Son’s wallpaper here don’t you think? A little really does go a long way.
Available from John Lewis £76 a roll.
And the design looks equally good used as fabric for a lampshade. I bet the effect looks stunning in the evening!
Lamp or ceiling pendants available through ‘Love Frankie’ on Notonthehighstreet.com for £45
I hope you’ve enjoyed this dose of seasonal inspiration!
